Maintain your lawn quality with our handy seasonal maintenance guide

The start of a new year is a great time to reflect on the previous year’s successes and prepare yourself for the year ahead, ensuring your tools are in working order and you have everything you need.

To get you ready for a successful year, we’ve put together a handy seasonal maintenance guide to help you plan your grounds care jobs and get a head start on preparations.

January & February

The beginning of the year is often a quiet one when it comes to maintaining the ground, however, there are still a few jobs you can do. Remove any leaves or debris from your lawns and pathways, these can be hazardous if they become wet and slippery. Our leaf and litter vacuums are perfect for the job, featuring powerful suction, these easy-to-operate machines are ideal for residential areas to commercial needs.

Avoid walking on your lawn if it is waterlogged or frozen as this can cause damage to the grass, potentially inhibiting growth come spring. Seeing as there isn’t much to do at the start of the year, take the time to service your mower and other tools to ensure the blades are sharp.

March & April

Start mowing the lawn as the weather starts to warm up as this stimulates grass growth. Replace or repair damaged patches of lawn and remove weeds and coarse grasses by hand. Scarifying your lawn will help to remove organic matter such as moss, encouraging dense grass growth.

May & June

As the weather begins to improve, you can increase your mowing frequency, little and often is the key to successful growth. Aerate the lawn to improve drainage, allowing air and important nutrients to penetrate the soil, and water if rainfall is low.

The compact PL1803V Aerator is ideal for smaller properties, aerating up to 2.000m² per hour. Its design makes it easy to operate, steering smoothly without lifting and the easy fold handle allows for compact storage too.

July & August

Water throughout the summer months to maintain lawn colour, however, if there is a drought your lawn will turn brown and dormant, which will hopefully recover when the rain returns.

September& October

Heading into Autumn it is recommended that you decrease your mowing frequency, raising the cutting height on your mower as growth slows down. Aerate your lawn for drainage to prevent it from becoming waterlogged on rainy days and treat established lawns with weed, feed and moss killer.

November & December

For the final stages of lawn care for the year, remove any leaves and debris and mow if the lawn is still growing and conditions allow. The end of the year is also the perfect time to clean and oil all of your equipment before putting them into storage.
